US President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled Essar Group's plans to build a massive steel plant in Iowa, at an investment of USD 15 billion.
Trump made the announcement in the Oval Office with Essar Group co-founder Ravi Ruia and his son Rewant by his side.
"Today, we're thrilled to announce that Mesabi Metallics will be building the largest steel plant in American history in the great state of Iowa," Trump said.
Essar Group's Mesabi Metallics chairman Rewant Ruia thanked Trump "for bringing back the importance of building things in America."
Mesabi Metallics is building the plant with the aim of starting production by 2030, a White House official said.
The facility is expected to produce 10 million tonnes of steel a year and create as many as 1,750 permanent jobs in the state, the official said.

India needs a five-year policy agenda to make advanced genomic testing and targeted cancer therapies accessible to lower-income patients, leading oncologist Dr Bhawna Sirohi said on Saturday.
Speaking to PTI, Sirohi noted that precision oncology has the potential to transform cancer treatment, but high costs, limited access to advanced genomic testing and expensive drugs remain major challenges in the country.
Sirohi, consultant medical oncologist and medical director at Vedanta Medical Research Foundation-BALCO Medical Centre, Raipur, is the only cancer specialist from India on a new Lancet Oncology Commission on precision cancer, launched at the World Cancer Congress in Hong Kong on Friday.
The cancer specialist stated that unlike conventional chemotherapy, which can affect both cancerous and normal cells, precision treatment seeks to identify a specific target or biomarker on cancer cells and match it with an appropriate drug.

Opposition INDIA bloc parties are likely to meet in New Delhi on September 30 to discuss concerns over the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, besides other issues, sources said.
The proposed meeting comes amid increased coordination among opposition parties over the Election Commission following reports of differences within the poll panel over aspects of the SIR exercise.
The parties have been in touch with each other on the issue and are discussing a joint response, sources added.
The CPI(M), CPI and CPI(ML)-Liberation have demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the SIR, while the Congress has also stepped up its attack on Kumar.
The Congress Working Committee is scheduled to meet on September 29 to discuss its strategy on the issue.
The developments have also brought West Bengal's bitter political rivals, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and the CPI(M), on the same page on the Election

A 100-metre-long bridge, weighing 1,405 metric tonnes, for the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has been installed in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Tuesday.
It is the first steel bridge set up in Maharashtra as part of the project, they said, adding that the structure was transported on trailers from a workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, located 1,300 km away, and assembled on site for installation, the officials said.
The 14-metre-high and as-wide structure was launched over National Highway-3 at Dive-Anjur village in the Bhiwandi area here on Monday, a release by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said.
With this installation, 16 out of the total 28 steel bridges planned along the entire bullet train corridor have now been completed, it said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has assured the Indian Oil Corporation of facilitating land for its long-pending plans to develop a petrochemical complex alongside its refinery in Haldia.
Noting that the expansion would require 175 acres of land, the chief minister on Monday said the Haldia Development Authority has already arranged 85 acres and the remaining could be facilitated through the Haldia Dock Complex of Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port.
Adhikari said he has taken up the matter with the port authorities to ensure that the land is made available to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for its proposed expansion.
An official said, "If this happens, then the IOC will send the project to the board for consideration."
